Training
At Equality Management Services, we recognise that training costs
both time and money. Our aim is therefore to ensure that we tailor
each course we deliver to meet the needs of your business.
We believe that quality training on equality and diversity issues is
key to the success of any organisation. Staff who understand the
importance of equality and diversity will value the contributions of
others, have a flexible approach which enables them to respond
positively to the needs of customers and adopt a holistic approach
to solving problems.
At Equality Management Services, our approach is to enable people to
consider why discrimination happens, its destructive effects for
both individuals and organisations, and how to avoid practices which
encourage inappropriate behaviours.
We encourage people to recognise that delivering Equality for people
is primarily about gaining an understanding of and valuing
difference and, being flexible in the way in which things are done
to enable people to have the same opportunities. These opportunities
may be anything from enjoying a visit to a restaurant, travelling on
a bus, staying in a hotel, shopping for goods, participating in
education or doing a job successfully.
Our courses always cover relevant legal issues but from the
standpoint that whilst being important, these are a minimum
requirement.
Some examples of courses we deliver:
Equality and Diversity
We run general introductory courses which are designed to enable
participants to gain a basic understanding of the major issues.
These courses are particularly suitable for new employees, or those
who are undertaking Customer facing roles. These courses cover a
wide range of topics including:
- How discrimination is defined in legal terms.
- How prejudice against specific groups of people has come about for example racism or homophobia.
- Harassment and its impact.
- What terms such as equality and diversity mean
- And why adopting policies and practices which promote this approach is beneficial to the business.
We can run specific courses designed to meet the needs of a
particular group such as those involved in recruitment, or for
people managing staff.
Disability Equality Training
Delivering disability equality has become increasingly important for
organisations, not just because of the need to comply with the law
but also because it is increasingly being recognised that disabled
people have an ever widening choice of where and how to get what
they need, from education providers, those who deliver services such
as Shops, and leisure facilities. Disabled people also wish to have
opportunities to achieve their potential in the work place.
Our courses explore the changes which have taken place in society’s
attitudes towards disability. Courses are delivered from the
equality perspective, this instead of focusing on the impairment
which an individual has, requires organisations to remove or modify
the barriers which prevent disabled people from gaining access to
employment, services, education or transport.
We work with participants to enable them to:
- Examine and challenge the negative stereotypes and images of disabled people prevalent in society
- Develop an understanding of disability as an equality issue and of the extent of disability within society
- Explore the barriers society creates for disabled people and how these can be removed or their effects diminished.
Disability equality training is always delivered by a disabled professional.
